 Here How it Works

To enter as moderator or as owner of the room you have to have a  password,

enter  your Name  as:  your Name@password.

Once the you logged on the following screen is shown.

Each of the dialogs (voice / text / browser) are resizable by the user.  If there is a GUI configuration change at the server, it will overwrite the user's settings.  To reset the GUI to the server's current config, select "Reset Screen to Default" found under the file menu.

TEXT GUI

  1. Here is where all text messages are displayed.  The first line is the welcome message as configured in the room configuration.  The colors and font can be adjusted by menu options found under the options menu.
  2. This is where the user enters messages to be sent to others in the room.
  3. If the user wants to send a private message, select the recipient from the drop down list.

VOICE GUI

  1. Press and hold the LEFT CTRL key to talk.  This is a global key so the chat client does not need to be visible.
  2. This is a list of users in the room.  Also shown is the current speaker, and the queue of users waiting to speak.  If the queue is disabled, then only the user currently speaking will have a green bubble next to their alias.  Users who have been muted will have a red bubble next to their name.
  3. These are the speaker volume and microphone gain slider controls.  The Chat Client has built in Automatic Gain Control.  This allows the program to attempt to adjust the mic gain automatically to a comfortable setting.  To disable this select "Disable Automatic Gain Control" in the options menu.
  4. This is the the Voice Chat Server logo.
  5. This is a graphical representation of the user's connection and delay to the Chat Server.

BROWSER GUI

  1. This is the main browser window
  2. Navigation buttons
  3. If the room configuration allows browsing, then this edit box will be enabled, and allow users to enter a URL of their choice.

Misc Features

The following features are available if configured for the room.  They are available under the "File" menu or by right clicking on a user in the user list.

  1. Share Window (With Selected User): This will start the window sharing.  To select a window to share, use the mouse!  You can click on a window to bring it to the foreground.  Once there, a blue border will be drawn around the window the mouse is pointing at.  To share that window, right click on it.
  2. Send File (To Selected User): This will transfer a file to the selected recipient.
  3. Send Web Page (To Selected User): This will synchronize the recipients web browser with the same page currently displayed in your browser window.

Moderator Features

The following features are available for a moderator:

  1. Synch Web Page:  The moderator can synch every users web browser to the same page he is viewing by selecting this option under the moderator menu.
  2. Follow Me Mode:  Every users browser will be synched with the moderator immediately after he surfs to a new page.
  3. Share Window:  This will start the window sharing.  To select a window to share, use the mouse!  You can click on a window to bring it to the foreground.  Once there, a blue border will be drawn around the window the mouse is pointing at.  To share that window, right click on it.
  4. Clear Talk Queue:  If there is a user "hogging" the talk queue, or if the moderator needs to interrupt, he can clear the talk queue, and then press the ctrl key.
  5. Selected User -> Ban:  An unauthorized user can be banned from a room.  This will add the user's ID to the file "banned.txt" found in c:\chatterbox directory.  The ID is not based upon the user's alias or their IP address, but other factors taken from their PC to create a digital fingerprint.  Enter a message to be sent to the user.  To unban a user, the file c:\chatterbox\banned.txt must be edited by hand.
  6. Selected User -> Toggel Mute:  This toggles the mute on/off for the selected user.  Enter the number of hours to mute the user.  After the assigned number of hours the mute will be undone.  A user can be manually unmuted by the moderator.  As with Banning, a digital fingerprint is used.
  7. Selected User-> Max Gain:  The AGC feature is more sensitive in a downward direction than in an upward direction.  This is by design so that the gain doesn't vacillate too much during normal periods of silence.  If for some reason AGC is not able to perform its magic, the moderator can Max the Gain for the selected user.
  8. Selected User-> Give Control:  This allows the remote user to control the shared window.  To take back control, select your name in the alias list box and click on "Selected User->Give Control".
